Google Base geruchten

Nu lijkt het er weer op dat je met Google Base een beschrijving van je (eigen) content kunt toevoegen aan Google:

You may have seen stories today reporting on a new product that we’re testing, and speculating about our plans. Here’s what’s really going on. We are testing a new way for content owners to submit their content to Google, which we hope will complement existing methods such as our web crawl and Google Sitemaps. We think it’s an exciting product, and we’ll let you know when there’s more news.

Google Base

Iedereen heeft het weer eens over Google Base. Er zijn nogal wat speculaties die in de lucht hangen over de functionaliteit van Google’s nieuwste ‘product’, waaronder:

1. Een prikbord systeem
2. Een gratis hostingdienst à la Putfile en Dropload
3. Een nieuwe open database. GoogleSQL
4. Een API voor het toevoegen, bekijken en verwijderen van gratis gehoste content
5. Een mengsel van Blogsearch en de gewone zoekresultaten

Persoonlijk denk ik dat .4 de juiste is, als ik de volgende beschrijving lees:

“Post your items on Google.

Google Base is Google’s database into which you can add all types of content. We’ll host your content and make it searchable online for free.

Examples of items you can find in Google Base:

• Description of your party planning service
• Articles on current events from your website
• Listing of your used car for sale
• Database of protein structures

You can describe any item you post with attributes, which will help people find it when they search Google Base. In fact, based on the relevance of your items, they may also be included in the main Google search index and other Google products like Froogle and Google Local.”

Waarschijnlijk verwordt ook dit initiatief tot een bron van spam, net als Blogger..
